7 World Trade Center
New York City, USA

WTC7 was the last building to fall on 9/11 and the first to rise again. A simple geometric form defines the new 52-storey tower at the edge of Ground Zero. 7 opened in 2006 and integrated new code and life-safety systems and was also granted the first LEED Gold for a NYC commercial high-rise. The curtain wall reflects the skies of Lower Manhattan and the stainless steel rods at the base conceal an electrical sub-station. The lobby is carved out of the base and has a luminous LED light box ceiling.

Completed by Heather Cameron as Senior Technical Architect while employed at Skidmore Owings & Merrill.
